besides it was only pickup-trailer combo i was in when i did it. when i was in a semi truck, i couldn't back up straight for too long the lot was too small for that..surprisingly it was much easier to do it with the semi than the pickup:biggrin_25519:[/quote]

The longer the trailer the easier it is to keep straight and put it where you want it. Pick up and trailer has a small space between the pivot point and the trailer axle, therefore making it turn faster. With the longer space between, like in a semi, makes the trailer turn slower and easier to track.

Tk101, I too have pondered getting back in a truck. However, with the recent state of America(the recession), It does not seem feasible to go back into this field at this time. Trucking companies are laying off very Experienced drivers inundating the market with drivers.

The companies that ARE hiring, only want to pay somewhere around .22 cpm. Please, do what you need to do but, first, read this forum closer before you decide. A lot of drivers are sitting 3,4,and in some cases 7 or more days waiting for a load. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. As for me, I am going to see where the industry goes before I take the leap of faith again.

thanks for you advice. I intend to look over the forums, although there are lot pages of information to cover. My decision to think about this wasn't easy. the prospect of another commitment of signing on to a company now for training is dire indeed.

Yeah, i know...the markets are pretty bad now. its just that i have been trying at this for a long time, long before the market went down... i feel i shouldn't give up and forget all that i have done to get to this point becuase of the recession. ironically i'm a truck now, driving with my friend ( just recovered from a heart attack by way too) passing by Mall of America. he seemed to be able to get a load almost as soon as he drops one. however a number of times he has had to sit for a few days, mostly over the weekend becuase of dispatch doesn't operate on the weekends. I know i wont get the loads he gets, but i think i will get some..

I was thinking that becuase i'm a college student, sitting will just give me more time to do assignments. The pay would be low but it would be some pay as appose to none like i have now. It also crossed my mind that i can get in my year of experience now and when the market picks up (maybe next year?) i can get a better cpm, be at a better positioin than drivers rushing to get into the industry on the upswing, etc. My last job was worse than the worse of loss of profit from sitting in the trucking industry so it would be a step up for me.

I see it this way, If i sit 3 or 4 days. i can go online and do my assignments perhaps completing a weeks worth assignments in 2 to 3 days, sleep on the 4th day. On the other days i can drive and haul what ever loads are given. my assignments will be relatively easy for college becuase i'm finishing up on general ed courses.

lets say that my average miles for a week is around 1500 ( which is rather low and can be expected in such economic times) so that is about 330 a week. Agian when you compare it my old job...its wonderful lol. I earned 700 in 4 months at my last job...cough inventory cough....

still i dont like the idea of contracting a year of driving for training. I would like to go to a driving school, but i already have obligations to normal college so naturally i lack the money to do it. I have looked into grants and gov assitance but those were rather bleak options for me.

I thought about going with Roehl or Transport America. i'm creating a pool of options and with the option of big company training, i want to get a list of decent ones. As of now, i have not decided on driving just yet but i have been leaning towards it...

    thanks..any other considerations is welcomed
