I graduated from trucking school in may and since signed on with Swift Transportation. Not a lot of companies would hire me due to a poor employment history. I was unemployed for two years after being fired from my last two jobs (hence why I moved my butt to a trucking school). My question is, how long should I stay at swift before moving onto somewhere else for more money or home time?
I have no wife or kids, no car or house payments, so I don't need to push too hard for more money. More money is always nice of course as well as more home time. Any suggestions you have for companies I should look into when the time comes would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would say that you can start "looking" for other opportunities once you hit the 6 month mark. If you are going OTR, your available time to seek other employment will be limited. You should go into it expecting to be there a year. This is assuming you keep your nose clean and don't have issues that would cause Swift to sink you on a reference check.
Congrats on getting your CDL on your own, BTW. While Swift may not be the most pleasant experience, you are at least free to move on at any point if you find a better opportunity. -
Just take one month at a time. When the time is right, you'll [should] know. But you have to not hit things, not miss appointments, and not trash equipment in the mean time. Not trying to put pressure on you, but it is what it is. A lot can happen in 6 months, and you may even find a "sweet spot" at Swift so don't concern yourself too much about it right now.

You've only been behind the wheel for a month ! Get at least 6-8 months, then re-evaluate your situation.

whatever you do, DO NOT start job hopping.
stay at swifty for 1 year (better than 6 months), then look for something else, then STAY THERE.
job hopping will eventually cut down your chances for a better job, and do not forget, you have to list ALL your jobs for the past 10 years.
do you really want to have to ask for "more paper" to fill out a job application..??? -
If you have a history of job hopping? Then make it a goal to stay where you are for 18-24 months and enjoy your new career.Lonesome Thanks this.
