Bought my truck in Dec. 09 and the extended 2 year warranty.
All last year it was like a merry go round. In the shop more times than I could count. It's an 05 Century with 428K on it when I purchased it.
I had constant EGR codes and overheating problems. They just kept throwing parts at it. Ineffectively I might ad. Finally they found the EGR problem and fixed it. I took it someplace else and bought a radiator to fix the overheating problem.
Now I have an EGR code again. Three weeks ago FYDA Freightliner told me it was the VPOD and sold it to me for $600.00 installed. That wasn't the problem. So I took it to W.W.Williams in Columbus Ohio. They are telling me the EGR is bad again. It was replaced 9 months ago under warranty. FYDA tells me that because it was replaced under warranty and that portion of the warranty has expired, there is no applicable parts warranty or anything to save me from having to spend the money to replace it.
Then Williams calls me last night. They were going to replace the dump valve on the turbo. The mechanic tells me there is an internal shaft in the turbo that is damaged and that the complete turbo needs replaced. The turbo was replaced 13 months ago, complete.
These parts they are selling are junk and it seems there should be something a guy could do to get these people to stand behind parts replaced under warranty and or so close to being out of warranty that they should just for good posturing bite the bullet and fix it.

Sounds like you got a raw deal, Woody. Might want to look into whether lemon laws apply, though I imagine it's pretty tough for a used truck to qualify. I found this site, you can probably get a free consultation from a lawyer in your state: http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/

Yeah I called the dealership where I bought the truck and they too told me that the turbo is not covered under any warranty due to replacement under warranty and said warranty has expired.
I asked for Corp number for Freightliner/customer support and got...as you might think...to talk to a computer, who informed me that I needed to go to their web site and fill out a form, limited to 500 characters. I'm not quite sure how effectively you can chew someones arse in 500 characters but I sure let them know they are selling junk replacement parts. If they even remotely cared I'm sure they wouldn't be buying those parts from China.

yes they are correct. a part is replaced under manufacture warranty, that part is only warrantied for the remainder of the manufacture warranty. i believe all manufacture are this way. parts warranty are the same way. you buy a part and it has a one year warranty. that part is 11 months old and fails. you are giving another part under warranty. second part fails at 14 months it is out of warranty. 2nd part replaced assumes the remainder of the first part replaced and does get a second year. whats the last 6 of your vin? i will look into it a little more.

The turbo is 13 months old and the EGR is 10 months old. U78435

Williams took it apart and inspected everything but when they estimated $3,100.00 to repair I just couldn't foot that bill right now. Taxes went out today and this bill as it was came to a grand and change. I'm pretty sure I am going to have to bite the bullet on this. FYDA Columbus may be where I start though. That VPOD they put on my truck 3 weeks ago was an un-needed part and they wasted my money putting it on telling me it was my problem for the EGR codes. Maybe I can convince them to replace the EGR and deduct what they already charged me for that VPOD.

Even armed with the paperwork showing what the real reasons were for my EGR codes, FYDA was only willing to allow me a hundred bucks back out of the 800 they already got me for. I told the guy to go jump in a lake. As far as I am concerned FYDA will not stand behind bad decissions or when you call them on it. Guess work mechanics is not professional and at the rate they charge, we deserve better than that. They worked on and did not resolve either of the two issues I had, charged me the $800.00 and made their money and took mine... for nothing...
