I wonder who is sitting behind the wheel? I saw ads on indeed for "experimental test drivers" Probably pays a lot right now but wait until this mess gets a foothold. I wonder how they will work it then. 3 sad sacks crammed in a truck doing 8hour shifts at minimum wage?

Can't wait for the follow up on this. Testing Chrysler Pacificas, yet featuring a semi? Another tall Texas tale full of holes.

robots doing jobs is a good thing. I shouldnt need to explain why.

But not if u are sacrificing safety of humans. And robot driving on highway has alot of safety concerns

They will have to pay me like 30 a hour to baby sit a robot truck 11 hours a day. They already probably spent half a million making it happen, they can squeeze out a couple of double digit dollar bills every hour.

Nope, all the money went for development, none left for a driver, the original intent. It will be a low paying job, like TV monitoring with one task, "every half hour, push the reset button",,:biggrin_25518:

And probably all the risk when the robot makes a mess of people. No thanks.

One of those Waymo cars was involved in an accident here in Tempe last week.
Someone pulled in front of it and stopped abruptly, the person behind the wheel try to avoid it but could not, I guess the computer could not either.

    UturnGirl and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I don't like the name "Waymo". All the equipment weighs a ton, and probably takes up the front half of the wagon, ( over on the drives empty) leaving you with room for 10 pallets, and no reefers. They didn't tell you that,,:biggrin_25523:

The problem with this is that the human who’s “monitoring” the robot driver won’t be engaged enough to be able to react in real time. The time to have your hands on the wheel and your feet on the pedals is BEFORE stuff goes wrong, and that kinda defeats the purpose of the thing, doesn’t it?
