Another proof that I am right, in 5 years you better find another NON TRUCKING job for yourself

 

Five years? How about five days? This past weekend my company started mounting cameras on tripods on the hoods of our trucks and putting bricks on the gas pedal.

I have a friend hauling cows that said livestock trailers are coming with Go Go Gadget arms to sort cows in the dark, and Ashley Furniture is using autonomous trucks with self propelled hand trucks to deliver their 12-15 stop loads behind impossible shopping centers. They've cut their fleet in half and increased deliveries 200 percent.

 

Yeah yeah , you go ahead and laugh, but don't me mad when your manager will kiss you goodbye in 2025

 

First off, my manager is a man so if he tries to kiss me, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Your matter of fact approach about this subject just shows how little actual knowledge and experience you have in this industry. Keep up with your sky is falling approach if it makes you feel better.

And this industry has been downhill for a long time, if I never set foot in a truck again I couldn't care less, especially being debt free with a second career at my disposal and a wife that makes a very good living.

 

And that's exactly how robot cars and trucks will win the roads, cause no one care about anyone but himself

 

How long have they been testing self driving trucks? And they get excited that one truck can drive across a flat desert in a rain storm? That just reinforces the fact that my job is safe from the robots.

 

5 years ago people was complain that automatic transmission on truck is stupid, now almost all megas switched to automatic.
5 years ago adaptive cruise control was only in luxury 80 grand cars, now 20$ Corolla can have it.
5 years ago no one was even thinking about autonomous trucks, now it's already testing on a roads.
So who says that in 5 years from now autonomous trucks want be able to drive on I-10. And that's means that all truck drivers will have to abandon that route and will try to find something up north , meaning it will be less demand for truck drivers, so wages will go down. I thinking 2 steps ahead, not just what around a corner

 

I haven’t been south of I-40 since 2015. And I don’t swing doors and back up to a dock. So like I said, I’m not concerned about my job.

 

Like I wrote , you will get concern when bunch of owner/operators will move their trucks up north cause robots will conquer the South

 

I'll be honest, you've convinced me. I just turned in my 5 year notice to my boss. Sure I get in some really difficult places running LTL multistops not meant for trucks, but in 5 years drones will deliver these 8 foot wide 2500 lb pallets.

When he asked why I was turning in my notice, I said you know why, you elitist.
