I started this thread to provide a place for anyone to find Self Education material. I am sure a lot of you O/O's out there, educated yourselves somehow. Either college, books, DVD's, CD's, podcast's, webinar's magazines...etc. etc Any and all suggestions are appreciated and maybe we can start a share program. You know, I got a book, you got a book and we lend through the mail. Just a thought...

A lot of my "training" was passed on by mouth,I never knew how wise the people were or what they were telling me,at the time. Just wish I could of understood years ago, what was told to me.could be retired smoking fine Cuban cigars.

Believe it or no, CR England web site used to have excellent PDFs--driver training books. Not sure if they still do. Will have to check.

/Don't see them. As I recall, they were rather buried. But included topics from winter driving to life on the road. I may still have them around somewhere. There were a bunch of them and despite where they originated, content was great.

Surprising amount of good information at the web site, especially from the shipper view, info on protecting freight, loads, etc.

I have consumed most of my free time with trying to find as much education as I can about everything trucking and business. I have, and still, read books. I have CD's that I listen to and DVD's that I have watched. I have read a ton of info on this forum and I should have stock in Google. I am hoping to find out that there is information out there that I didn't know about. I have talked to, and still talk to, many O/O's I meet out on the roads of America.

I posted the following videos on trailer air after a breakdown in OH. See: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...culture-one-drivers-experience-gordon-30.html (Altho, the breakdown had nothing to do with Gordon Trucking, no longer work there.)

Here's one better; my dad drove truck from the time he was 17 until he died, in 1996 at the age of 52, to the big C. I never saw my daddy when I was a kid, as you can imagine, and I decided at a very young age that there was no way I was going to drive big rigs and not see my children. I didn't start driving truck until 12years after he passed. I wish I would have started sooner, about 2 years sooner. I don't remember too much talk about trucks back when he was alive, I pretty much let him know, I didn't care about trucking. I never thought about trucking until my friend got into it. Now, I cant get enough of it... I wish I could recall any and all conversations my dad may have had in my presence about trucking. The thing I remember as a kid and thinking what a smart man he was, was the fact that he could tell anyone at any time, a particular place across the country and what MM to get off, to get there... R.I.P. David..........a.k.a. Diesel Gypsy

SheepDog, you're a living memorial to your dad after all, aren't you! How cool! Truck stops were even more toxic (no APUs) when he drove. Many carcinogens in diesel fumes and the air quality at TSs has been flagged for that cancerous toxicity. Like many, he may have been a casualty of the work he loved. Life expectancy OTR is 61 compared with 75-years average male. O/O 57-year life expectancy!!

    /End hi-jack.
