Hi all I have been reading various forums for the last couple of days. I am deployed with the Army right now and I have less than a year to go before they put me out with 17 years under my belt. I have been researching companies and ran into this forum. If someone could give me a no B/S asessment of the three companies that offer CDL schools. Prime Inc., Pam and Swift. It would seem from what I have read that Prime is the best one to go with. I have no interest in leasing but want to be a company driver. I live in Tennessee if anyone has anything on hometime in that area. Thanks.

While you're still on active duty, ask about VRAP-Veterans Retraining Assistance Program; will pay for driving school. After this there is a good high paying company in Hopkinsville; Bulkmatic.com

A trucking company CDL school will charge you and you must sign a contract to work for them from 6 mos. to 24 mos. With the VA program, the training is free to you. That's your decision though.

I can't asnwer your questions about the 3 you mentioned, but your best money will be with refrigerated or tanker.

Companies with good hometime that would benefit you living in Clarksville:

    Bulkmatic.com (Hopkinsville)
    Tankstar.com (Nashville)
artransport.com (Terminal in AL, but have rail facility in Nashville)
    greatwide.com (Goodlettsville-Associated Grocers Warehouse)
    Hoge Motor Co. (flatbed-Springfield)

    Best wishes from another vet.

Another thing, some companies say "X" amount of experience required; but that's not carved in stone, so apply anyway.
