Not only that, but hitting his brakes several times for no reason. That in itself is enough to get the trooper's attention. Just screams impaired.

Driver had his foot on the dash. Swerved left when he took it down.

    That's my guess.

I think there's more going on there than just a little distracted driving. He was on something or falling asleep with NO idea of what was going on around him for a long time, or he was purposefully trying to swerve at the cop. That could certainly be argued.

The truck driver was clearly not paying attention to his surroundings, and I'm certainly not trying to diminish that in any way.

But I wonder why on Earth the trooper decided to ride next to (or slowly pass) the trailer, especially after he had seen the way that driver was driving. That was an error judgment on the trooper's part.

I've had troopers hang next to me, maybe looking at the numbers or for violations. I agree, that's a bad spot to be in, probably won't do it again.

They are rarely in a rush to pull you over. They want as much on cam as they can get that you are not driving properly. Why would he expect to be run off the road though? That's a lot worse than swerving.

They love to just sit there awhile, right in your blind spot. Even if you aren't doing anything wrong sometimes they do it. They know good and well you probably know they are there and they know they are making you paranoid. They are fishing, basically, hoping you'll make a wrong move.

I hate that feeling. Doesn't happen much but it did happen to me just yesterday coming through Columbus, OH.

He had enough on cam to initiate a traffic stop for failure to maintain a single lane of travel and/or suspicion of driving while impaired or distracted.
