Sounds like we know the rules and what we can do. Gray areas will always exist and we aren’t going to get those solved in this forum.
I too always travel with a stack of paperwork supporting my position of not needing a CDL.
Lessons learned I guess as I once spent 2 1/2 hours in Wyoming at a Point of Entry Scale arguing with two Lesbian DOT officers, and oddly enough it wasn’t even about a CDL or a log book, it was about whether I needed a IFTA sticker!
Leaving the house in a few hours this morning for a weekend trip with the rig as well. Always look forward to firing that thing up and pulling out of the driveway.

Sorry but that’s wrong, there is no such thing as a one ton truck, the truck that have a gvrw over 10k requires logs in almost all states, and if there is a trailer with a 10k plus rating, it cdl land.

You winning prizes as a race car driver/owner is a commercial venture.

We’re building a crawler hauler to be used with our Freightliner century cab “RV”. We bought a 44’ deck 52’ OAL GN trailer to build off. In hindsight I wish I had bought a step deck to capitalize on the air ride, brakes and increased axle capacity. To the OP, from way back when, we could legally use our truck to pull a “commercial” trail for personal gain in the toter home style

I own a Trucking company and have several tractor trailers. I have used my commercial truck to pull my fiver as well as F550 to pull the same. I prefer using freightliner cascadia to pull it cause it's the same as pulling empty semi trailer. I decided to buy a Freightliner cascadia specifically as RV hauler. After extensive research I found insurance is very limited. I ended up using FCIS and they got me insured through Progressive for $867/ year On the Freightliner. The caveat is the truck is required to be connected to fiver. As explained I can go get fuel or service on tractor bobtail but minimal usage. We live in FL, however, we'll be using the HDT and fiver about 6 months a year. I did use Bennett Law to create MT LLC as holding company and I can say I would save about $500/ year on insurance switching everything to MT for registration. Our only hang up is refinancing RV to switch to LLC. We'll also save about $600 in taxes registering in MT versus putting FL plates on freightliner. To give info on comparison my F550 is registered in FL and insured in FL and registration costs about $140/year but insurance is ridiculous on F550 at $2800/year with Geico commercial. Because every insurance carrier wants to rate F550 as commercial even for personal use. It saves me $2000 in insurance using freightliner. Another thing to note, I can pull fiver up grades at highway speeds with freightliner, lot more comfortable for long trips and I get about 12 mpg in freightliner versus about 6 mpg in F550. My fiver is triple axle Keystone Carbon 398 that's about 44' overall with 17' garage. We'll carry Harley and honda pioneer in the garage. Overall loaded weight is about 20,000 lbs with toys and gear. Another added benefit the tractor alone weighs about 15k lbs. I specifically got a Freightliner cascadia 113 mid roof and will be removing 1 drive axle so it's single rear axle. It has smaller 48" sleeper so my wheel base is almost the same as F550. We'll also be pulling jeep wrangler behind fiver since my wife will be doing travel nursing contracts around the country so she has transportation to/ from her contracts.
