I need some expert advice on my series 60 12.7 2005 model. I currently have 957k miles on it and trying to get some info if many of you have seen them go more than 1 million miles? I have been stressing out lately thinking it’s going to blow any day since we are so high in miles. I have no real issues the thing runs great still only issues I’m having is large amounts of blow off smoke coming from blow by tube. It only burns 1 gallon of oil every 12k Miles i have egr bypassed on the unit also. Only other issue has been slight loss of power of day about 10% loss this past year and to go with that loss of fuel mileage from 7.0 mpg to 6.0 mph over past year.I have considered rebuilding it but on californis it’s not worth it since trick must be off the road by 2023. Should I run this thing until we blow or try to get out now while californis will give me 60k towards a brand new truck?

If you're going to stay running in California I would go ahead and take the 60k. You have 957k on it not just the engine neither. The adage if it ain't broke don't fix it.(poor man's motto) That isn't a mechanical sound philosophy. I've been there done that. If it wasn't California like where I'm at Pa 1999 KW 12.7 1.4m on it I would say keep on trucking with a rebuild. It's time to send it out to the recycling pasture. All the best to you

That's what I'd do. You've had an amazing run with it, and I would be afraid too that it was about to lay down on me. I have a detroit too, though I'm no expert, but i've never heard of one going as many miles as you've got from yours. More like 650-700,000 if taken care of well normally.

Yes lord has really blessed this truck and would hate to throw away 60k fre down payment toward ne rig that California is willing to give me. Although even with 60k down still outrageous price for new triuck but at least if o ever did have to sell new triuck at least I would have 60k towards it already. Stressful times ahead

    Did I get it right? It's a 2005?
Doesn't CARB require it to be 2007 or newer?

You might be on the hook if inspected by the right institution. There was a topic not too long ago here, where a O/O was fined in Ontario with his non compliant truck while he was sitting at a truckstop. And non compliant was age related and not deleted.

I'd take the 60 and carry on.

It can be 2005 if you have a retrofit filter which I do have and cost me 15k bunch of crap. Yes this truck has been absolutely the most reliable truck out of me and my 7 other trucking buddies that haul for same brisker. This includes 2 drivers with brand new trucks that makes me a little nervous knowing I’m most likely gong to have more issues with brand new truck than I had with this one.

That pre emission engine will still have a normal value after 2023, you’ll just need trade it in any state except California.

The first OTR truck I saw in college had a 12.7 Detroit in it with 1.2m mile And it’s owner brought it In for and inframe because his Son needed a project.

If you’ve already noticed a fuel mileage drop and it has blowby you still need an inframe. But if you don’t push it you should be able save up money, shop your warranties and mechanics shops, and get it done in your own time.
