I personally have two friends who have 12.7 S60, one has a 2001 Freightliner FLD with 1.3k original miles, the other has a Volvo VNL770 with 1.4k original miles.
They never opened up their engine, just change the oil and go.
Both trucks have been retrofitted with stand alone DPF and run into Commiefornia daily.
Someone wants to give you $60k so you can get into a money pit post-emission truck?
You better run away from that deal.
I’d keep the S60 and run it till the wheels fall off, then rebuild it and do it over again.
Series 60 Detroit is it time to replace

I personally know where 4 S60 Detroit's are with 1.5 million + on them and never been touched. They are still running every day. Those engines (cat, cummins, detroit,) built from around 92 - 2005 we're some of the best engines ever made. The manufacturer's had to stop building them, they didn't generate enough service work for the dealership's. Look at all the big fancy dealership's they are building now, all because of the ton of money they are making off the emmissions junk being built nowadays.Rideandrepair, mp4694330, boneebone and 1 other person Thank this.

Ok gotcha my Mechanic told me if I do inframf right it will cost me 25k says might as well get new turbo and some other crap but either way I get your point.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Is $25k for a factory Detroit Reman or a shop In-frame?
Seems kinda high for a shop reman and reman turbo only costs $1800.
My friend bought an aftermarket Made in China turbo for $400 dollars three years ago and it’s still going strong. -
No way I would rebuild that engine yet if it is not using more oil than that. A little blow by is normal for those engines. And they all smoke a little out of the blow by tube. If you notice it is worse on some days than others depending on the weather/humidity.
I have one with 950k miles on it, uses 1/2 gallon of oil on 15k mile changes. No way I will open it up until it gives me a reason to. -
keep a detroit service and it will last
When u go to build a DD15,Cat,or Cummins your looking at the lowest is going to be in the 9000 and up for labor and parts at clark detroit and it will be 7000 to rebuild the hole motor -
Ahhh, the guys with real smarts are awake!!!
