I have a 2001 Volvo VNL770 with a Cummins N14 that just turned 1 million miles with a DPF retrofit.
There's no way I would take $60k credit towards it for a new shop queen.
I'd take $60k cash for it and retire, but never to get into a newer POS.Working2party Thanks this. -
I admit these guys have nearly made me change my mind. Maybe you should keep the old one. If you weren't in California I definately would, but with that I'm still not sure.
-
That is a hard choice because the answer is 50/50. Look at your options
Where do you want to be in 4 years?
Spend 10-20k now. Fix/repair/rebuild now. In 4 years you will have a 6-8k truck that has to be replaced. (But look at all you the $$ you can bank in 4 years with no truck payment)
Take the $60k get a new truck now. With that kind of down deposit. Depending on what you get It should be paid in 2-3 years.
So 4 years from now you will have a 4 year old paid for truck.
Everyone has opinions only yours counts. That said if it was me. I'd take the 60k get a new truck. Accelerate payments and have it paid in 2.5 years. -
Would like new truck but reality is not going to be able to pay it off that fast more like 6-7 year loan. Even with $60k down brand new trucks after tax licenses and all other bullcrap fees you pay in californis $150k out the door so I would still have to finance 90k that’s a lot of big monthly payments for a truck that probably will be down more than my current truck. Might just run this thing until the wheels fall off like others have said then worry about it all lolshmuck359 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Well if it still runs good than run it for a bit more.
But if you've not owned the truck since new it will most likely start to use a gallon of oil per day soon.
That is when it will need an inframe. And rebuild the head, and replace the oil cooler, oil pump, check the Piston oil squirters, and the gear drive.
And repaint the bock if your going to make it look nice.
Series 60 is the best engine for Linehaul use, and the best on fuel mileage most days. -
If you wait the 4 extra years, will you still be able to get the 60 000 $ grant?
-
No guarantee most likely not once California runs out of funds the program ends could be going on in 4 years still you never know
-
Then i would run the numbers again in detail about what is best.
Leaving 60 000$ on the table..........that is a lot off money.
And in 4y you will have to pay full price for a truck that is carb compliant.OldeSkool Thanks this.
