hello i was wondering if anyone could help me out with performance parts for a 2000 detroit. we are looking at rebuilding a 435 hp engine to try to keep up with those hot rod cats. i have been reading about the marine injectors and cam does any one know the part numbers or where i could get them and if there is any way to get a hot calibration for these engines thanks in advance

If you find sources let me know in this thread. I just traded my fuel drinking 550 Pussmo Cat for one. It doesn't get the mpg I thought it would. Am very disapointed. Its in the shop now. Mechanic says on the smaller motor small things make a large difference. Could be; leak in charge air cooler, rack off a bit, exaust leak, bla, BLA... Have been told if I want to take mine apart there are tricks. Balance rods/pistons, mercury balancer, port/polish heads, gasket match heads with intake and exaust manifolds, and polish intake and exaust manifolds. Detroit has parts to up HP to 500 for that engine. Don't know if it's just injectors or if you need cam and turbo too, but if you are taking it apart for a rebuild, what the hay? Pittsburgh Power has bigger turbo for the unit as well as their "power box" electronic controller. They claim better economy as well.

hoping to here from someone from the series 60 performance crowd as well. i just bought a 99 Volvo 610 with series 60 split horse 435/500 , i was told. Covington Detroit diesel ( Greensboro NC) said mine, after serial number verification , could be bumped to straight 500 for $500. i talked to Pittsburgh power and they recommended:
1. high flow exhaust
2. non waste gated turbo , they offer one for this application
3. Fass fuel system
4. their power box "40 rear wheel horsepower"
looking forward to research into the marine side because this all looks pricey for the output. course i know that the first 500 hp is cheap. it's the rest that really cost. johnny -
on last item i left out, the upgrade to 500 hp was computer programming, reflash , whatever. no parts would be needed or harmed in the making of this horsepower , johnny

500 to reprogram your motor is a good price. I called the Detroit dealer in Birmingham, Al. and they told me it would be 800 to do mine.

Have a look at Pits Power web site. They have also got ported & polished exaust manifolds. Theirs are a little pricey though. You can get a junk yard exaust manifold for 200 +/- and polish/ gasket match it yourself. Then take it to race coating place for ceramic coating. This is the same stuff they put on headers to reduce heat transfer. The low restriction exaust is always the first thing I do to a truck. If it has the stacks up the back of the cab you can look for Dynaflex Muffler. They make a straight threw/no-baffle. Looks like a Cherry Bomb inside. Also google "charge air cooler". I have found some after market ones that look good. My mechanic says he's never checked a stock one that didn't leak. Some of the after market makers claim you can loose a full mile per gallon because of these leaks. They didn't say how much HP. Mine is in the shop for this right now. Also if you have the little 12 liter motor, just a little off on the rack can make a large difference in HP and economy. Don't know about you, but the economy is what blows my dress up lately.

i have heard of people takeing the marine injecters and cams and makeing around the 600 horse mark with the detroits. I just have the non waste gated turbo and the injector codes changed. What that does for me not sure but it pulls with most 475 cats. By no means a hot rod but with my wheel base pulling a reefer on a exhd pete I can't beat the fuel mileage. Could use more power though.
