Regardless, it's a privacy issue in my opinion.

Insulting the other side and saying that they're predominantly bad drivers doesn't mean they shouldn't have privacy.

"Then just go work somewhere else!" is like the "First they came for this group, and I did nothing" quote: what are we going to do when every company has these ####ing cameras? "GUESS YOU AIN'T CUT OUT FOR BILLY BIG RIGGIN!"

And that seems extreme, right? Well certain companies were testing these electronic logging devices y'all love so much at first, too. And what was the refrain? "Don't like it, go work somewhere that'll letcha run three logs!"

"And then they came for me, and nobody did anything."

Does the truck have curtains for the windshield ? That’s my understanding what the courts have rule on this. It’s not violation if the truck has windshield curtains.

if someone is in Canada I heard it is a violation but in the USA if they have the windshield curtains it not violation. If they don’t have the windshield curtains you probably have good case againsts them.

Yes, it is, and how hard is it to pull the curtains?
The first thing I do after logging Off Duty is pull the curtains.

And you know what opinions are like?

The drivers who complain the loudest are FACTUALLY the drivers with the worst level of performance. This is a training tool, the events a driver triggers allows the driver to SEE the events and then using those event's change their behavior. I'm curious what exactly you think drivers who are habitually committing unsafe violations need "privacy" to do? The cameras do not record anything that they aren't doing.

Get off the cross dude... we need the wood.

    Atwt and firemedic2816 Thank this.

As soon as you stop you can cover the cameras with whatever you want... there is nothing will trigger the cameras except forces that exceed a certain level.. when someone backs into the truck or something like that, the camera will come on and record that clip. I think its fair to say that all drivers would love to have a clip of the clown that backs into them and runs off..

Good point. If it became so popular among carriers that every one of them started installing them then the driver essentially loses his career path or his rights to essential privacy and dignity. No matter which choice he makes, he loses.

I'm a 20-year veteran with zero tickets and accidents, and I'm opposed to driver-facing cameras. I guess we're both FULL of specious anecdotes!

I'm no martyr. I just don't have my head in the sand.

Not all curtains are on the windshield and some cameras are mounted on the dash. Also, there's usually audio recorded as well. Should the driver sew his lips shut too?

Say no to driver facing cameras.

Camera companies should give drivers access to dispatcher desk cameras facing them to make sure they are truly "looking for a load for you".

Everyone has a line in the sand. Some people left when ELD’s came. Some will leave the industry when speed limiters come. Some will leave when auto braking and lane departure are standard on new trucks. Some will leave when cameras are mandated. But the majority will just keep on driving, same as they always have.
