Hi I'm currently in the NC application process for WIA. My NC MVR is currently clear meaning 0 DMV points but I have had my share of speeding tickets in the past. Are my chances good for landing a driving job after I get my CDL?
Serious question from a wannabe driver

Need more info, like how old the tickets are? ect...
-
Okay. I'm 22 and my last speeding ticket is over a year old. I've been told by many local charlotte drivers that my speeding tickets won't matter since I don't have any reckless, dui/dwi, or accidents and I've had my license since 16

What's your 5 year history?
-
The report they pull will go back to 16, since your only 22.Pull your record online and see how it looks, I think it's 8-10 bucks for an instant one. I assume you got the speeding tickets reduced?

well, since hes 22 hes pretty much given the 5 yr history. many companies will disregard anything older than 3 years...some even less than that. the key would be to call several recruiters of companies that a. you are interested in and b. that hire drivers right out of cdl school. ask them BEFORE you shell out some dough to get your cdl. their job is hiring, so most will be happy to answer a few questions from a potential candidate. if you are unsure of exactly what your mvr looks like, request one (not sure how but im sure you can get it somehow). then be up front when you call the 5-10 companies you pick out. if not sure how to start looking, either go to a local truck stop and pick up a few magazines (they are pretty much a big advertisement for a couple hundred trucking companies looking to hire drivers) or use your computer to get a list. several decent sites for truck driving jobs.

Good Luck, I had a neighbor who had 4 tickets and couldn't find any company that would hire him. The fact is, its the insurance companies that also have to approve a drivers past driving history.
And his last one was for "failing to yield to a pedestrian in a cross walk." Nothing all that serious, but any kind of violations are taken seriously. -

Since the school is WIA funded; go for it. If you don't, you will always wish you had.

Thanks for all replies. Since I'm in the application process for WIA, at some point before I am approved they will ask me to obtain my dmv mvr in order to be approved. The government has gotten really strict about this program and the application process alone will take up to 60 days. Another part of the process is contacting several trucking companies to conduct "interviews" in which you ask important questions like will my MVR allow me employment with your company. The only reason I want to go into truck driving is because I have been working since 14 and I want stability in a field that I can work 20-30 years do a lot of saving and retire at 50
