Serious question that needs an answer. Why do so many truck drivers just bend over and take it?

What you’re talking about has happened gradually. It’s like the story about boiling a frog: You can only do it if it’s slowly.

There are good jobs in trucking you just have to find them. I work nights hauling oil and have zero human interaction and it suits me just fine. Most managers/dispatchers/drivers I’ve spoken with drive me nuts. The handful of good drivers I’ve met I keep in touch with on a pretty regular basis.

 

I like my setup because of the low human interaction too. Dispatch just sends me loads and I do them....I never talk on the phone with anyone. Well, I've probably talked on the phone with my dispatcher 4 times this year for about 30 seconds each time. I don't want you be treated like family, I already have family and I know what they're like lol.

 

I’m the same way. I honestly think sometimes the office personnel forgets who I am. Lol I’ve been at my current company a little over two years and I’ve been in the office since orientation like twice. And that was only because I had to. They send me loads and I run them and I never hear from them. Nothing. I’m never late and they never bother me.

I also believe that the nonsense of “we’re family” is overhyped among the trucking industry. Sure, you might make lifelong or good friends with a fellow driver or two but what does the company being the same you work under have anything to really do with it? And most companies have several family members that work there and that’s who they stay close with. You were always an outsider and always within an inch of being possibly terminated if you mess up. You’re not the “son of the owner” sorry to burst anyones bubble. I find the whole “we’re family“ and attempt to manipulate and play on the heartstrings of truck drivers who often live very lonely lives. To keep them loyal.

It’s the other drivers who might possibly be there for you.

 

many truck stops had "phone rooms" as well...but you could hardly sit at one, unless you were like 5' 0" and weighed like 90 pounds...

 

Trucks don't need to stop and help now because everyone is connected.
Everything is a phone call, Qualcom or Zonar message away.

50 years ago the original Star Trek had the concepts.
Small hand held communicators, tricorders (small hand held computer/scanners).
Welcome to the future.

Next up is transporter technology so we can have food replicators on the trucks.
Give it another 50 years and see what we have.

I doubt any trucker of that age would pass any of it up to stick in the 'good old days'.

Well I bend over and take it because I really enjoy eating it Subway and Chester's fried Chicken. So every time I go into love's I got the best of both worlds. But that's just me

 

I like that they've added Godfathers Pizza to those options in many of the newer Love's. Sometimes I struggle with the Chester's and Godfather's. Chester's has that fried corn on the cob that I find irresistible.
