Now that you mention it, I do remember something in the manual about the antenna having to be on a flat surface. This one is fixed with double sided tape...probably at a 45deg angle. The last driver ran this antenna and left the hookups, so I just connected it to my Sirius unit figuring it was good to go. I'll try using my own antenna and see how it does. Last time(on a Cascadia), I mounted it on top of the APU condensor bracket behind the sleeper since that was the only flat metal surface back there. It did well for being in a (not so) unobstructed space, but still cut out from time to time. Nothing near as badly as this current one though. Still curious about that antenna I linked to.

Again, I'm no expert in the satellite radio. But it is my understanding that the top of the antenna you have is the "eyes" of the unit and the eyes need to be able look directly at the satellite. At at 45° angle your asking the antenna to look out the side of its head...

Might be worth a try to get a price of sheet metal that you can bend and mount... Stop at the auto parts store and pick up a small roll of body side molding double side tape. Remove the current antenna and clean the old tape off. Put new tape on your new bracket and bend it so the antenna mount area will be level, use new tape to secure the antenna to bracket and test it for a week or so. If it works you can go back and make a better looking bracket for it if you think it needs.

Will be cheap and easy to do. Might save having to buy a new antenna, and run wire if it works..

There's a YouTube video on this. A driver takes the magnetic antenna and puts it in an aluminum pan, sticks a metal soup can lid on the other side (under the magnetic antenna but outside of the pan). He took that, slid it into upper front storage cubby.
Be darned if it's not working really well. I'm getting 3 bars of signal on average. Going under a normal width overpass, it drops to 1 bar but doesn't cut out.

I use the little magnet antenna that came with radio, since my freight shaker is not meta it would not stick to the roof so at a TA truck stop I bought some tear drop small size piece of metal they sell for something I really have no idea what it's for. But it's perfect for super glueing anywhere on a truck u want then sticking the magnet antenna on. I have 3 or 4 signal bars always and only Loses signal in tunnels

Its made to be used on a CB antenna. It goes between the antenna base and the antenna itself. You then stick the XM antenna to it. The hole should be the same size as the screw on part of the CB antenna.

How long does it take you to clear an overpass? Unless the signal is blocked 5-10 seconds you shouldn't have any interruption even with the magnetic antenna.

Something you might want to consider if you have a good data plan on your phone--their smartphone app gives you channels that aren't on the radio, especially if you are into sports. Plug your phone into the AUX jack on your radio and you're good to go. And no overpass problems or $60 antennas.
