Yup do the same thing op.
If the knob pops before morning probably have a leak somewhere.
Don't set it @ docks ethier. Auto dumps trl and usually sets too low.
Only time I set it is on home time and that's from pumping out all the air just out of old habit I guess. -
I'd much rather the forklift operator slowed down and took ten extra minutes loading me, than drive thirty mph into my trailer, adding much stress and wear on expensive suspension components. Not too mention it feels like getting punched in the kidney if you are in the driver's seat every time they go in that fast.Richter Thanks this. -

Trailer brakes are always set unless there are freezing conditions. If there is an air leak and the brakes set over night that is ok as the water will already be frozen and will not stick as hard if at all. I have seen one side of a drive axle frozen on a friends truck. Once it happened at a truck stop and he went inside without setting the trailer brakes and the tractor brakes released.... Well they came loose and his truck rolled into the road. Luckily nothing got hit. So if your tractor brakes are frozen and you want to go inside then set the trailer brakes. Should have had them set while he was working on it anyhow, the idiot!

I'm lazy and like to just pull on the tractor brake which as you know automatically makes the trailer brake pop out. I remember my trainer was always on me for setting the trailer brake since he never did. Especially while getting loaded at the shipper without the trailer brake the fork truck would shake the hell out of the truck to where I almost fell out of bed. I never had my trailer brakes freeze and I spent days in the worst record breaking ice storms where my whole truck was covered with snow and ice and everything still worked fine. Then again the company I drive for uses the latest technology in trailers and brakes so that may be the reason.

Trailer air brake knob even says "not for parking."
davetiow and CargoWahgo Thank this. -
As much as I hate to admit it. I'm one of those dumb idiots that has done that. And wasn't when I was new and didn't know any better. Was just over a month ago in that bad ice storm va got. Had under two thousand pounds on the deck, and just could not feel that one wheel assembly was dragging. Was a nice 1100 dollar reminder of what real winter is.
