Storm Prediction Center has made History, forecasting what is essentially a outbreak of severe weather on day 4 from today, Saturday May 18 give or take a day. The following three days into next week is more severe.
It is the first time ever for the SPC to issue this so far ahead. And the briefing does not look good at all for that day. Essentially large tornadoes and everything but the kitchen sink.
As we get closer to Friday this week the details should emerge. Again SPC history has been made today so far ahead into extended forecasting. For them to write with such feverish accumulation of big scary wording must be their awesome computer models has lit them up today. This kind of long range prediction has never been written.

But here is one that caught a couple who had a camper trailer on their hook and should not have tried to advance into this one... (Volume pitch warning...)

That and some folks just blew off the warnings not expecting anything to happen. Back in 2011 when they forecasted a possible outbreak the end result was way more than what forecasters had predicted. Not just the number of tornadoes but their ferocity. The tornado that hit Tuscaloosa,Alabama was a long lived event. Many people in Birmingham were watching the storm wreak havoc in Tuscaloosa only to see that same tornado knocking on their front door less than a hour (and 75 miles later). If you go up I-65 near Fultondale you can still see trees that were bent over by the tornado
