He was telling me, "For me to go home. I have to set an amount of cents per mile back just to go home". Thinking to myself.....why in the world would you have to do this? Not making enough money, perhaps.

I personally wouldn't go with either one, but IMO I'd say prime just because I've heard a few guys say the miles aren't there with shaffer

I would look into Lessors Inc or Southeast Carriers. Both have decent equipment and get you good miles. Check them out.

Yes, if you're in the hiring area, South East Carriers would be good; they don't do the Northeast, but do lots of West Coast.

Shaffer has miles, I know because I run them. I am consistently getting 2700-3000 a week. (Last 4 weeks: 2815, 2934, 3399 and 2949) If a driver is not getting them, there may be a problem with the driver. In the last 3 months I have been to PA twice...all the remaining miles have come in the West and Midwest.

From what I know, SEC and Lessors have opened their hiring area a bit per members on here. If I had to choose between Prime Inc or Shaffer, I'd choose neither. I'd look strongly at SEC or I'd look at a smaller company. Downside to smaller companies is the limited availability of swapping or dropping trailers. Theres a couple companies out of the Midwest that would fit the op's requirements. One has royal blue freightliners and pulls reefers.

Lessors doesn't hire where I live. They hire from the area I moved out of 14 months ago, but that's neither here nor there. (No pun intended, I swear)

If you are on the Crete side. Please don't get stuck in Pennsylvania, because you will sit until they find you a load, if your lucky they find you a load.
