I know drivers who can't seem to find the dip stick that is yellow and marked in big black letters OIL sticking out like a beacon in the dark. So it is possible to get it all messed up and confused while driving.
One of the things I learned with interviewing a lot of drivers is that many of them are not trained to stop and think, but pushed to get it done. I blame first the ease of licensing but more than that I put this on the shoulders of people who claim to be trainers and pass on bad and stupid habits, which can be eliminated if we want it to be eliminated.NavigatorWife, tman78 and driverdriver Thank this. -

I went to a nearly fly-by-night CDL school in the 1990s, and even THEY were constantly harping the "Watch your speed, watch your signs, know your weight, empty and loaded."
AND she was a local, according to the article. Sheesh!Kenworth 4life Thanks this. -
I spent a couple of years with a Kentucky Mennonite woman, so knowing what the Amish truck driver girl did isn't the least bit surprising. Critical thinking skills, or lack thereof, while exploring outside their community, are similar in both cultures.
