Are the bunks a normal size bed? Do you have to find special size bedding? Do some just use sleeping bags? Anyone know what a mattress costs for one? Will most places get you a new one when you get assigned a truck?

I believe that most,if not all, places give you a new mattress. I believe most bunks are either a twin or full size. Mine is a single, but I only have a 48" bunk.

you should get a new mattress supplied by company
company mattresses are not very good
but will do at first most mattresses are college twins
I wrap a queen size blanket around my mattress and have a sleeping bag on top
with an extra polar sleeping bag for a pillow
in case of breakdown and no heat

Sapp Brothers TS in Nebraska area has great pillow top mattresses for $199

Most bunks are the super single, which are kinda hard to find but are available. Your trainer or company should be able to tell you the size of the matress. If all else fail, take your polack ruler and measure to get the dimensions.

I went out and got a layer of memory foam from Walmart it's 2 inches thick and it makes a crappy mattress perfect

Twin size sheets fit fine, but not perfect. If you are team driving then avoid satin sheets, unless you are a fan of "Slip Sliding Away".

When you are training it's best to just bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. After you get your own truck then get sheets and blankets, etc. Some kind of mattress topper is essential for comfort. I bought a $20 poly comforter and doubled that up as a mattress topper before putting my fitted sheet on the mattress, and that made a world of difference.

Personal choice, but I never used sheets my whole career. Found a good oversize sleeping bag; it's huge and can turn over in it with no problem. Some sleeping bags say large or oversize, but still too small; have to search for the really big ones.

I spent $100 and got a good 4" memory foam to put on my mattress. Best money I've ever spent.

Mattress in my 63" Pete bunk is a college twin. I had to order some decent sheets.

Same here. I got the Coleman brand from Walmart, $35, but I didn't sleep in it, I got another to use for covers, so each could be folded double. My mattress was fine then, but I did spring the big bucks for 2 down pillows.

Like I heard Daniel Tosh suggest: "It's a third of your life, spend the money."

I think it's the law, creepy-crawlys and all. If it wasn't, company drivers would be sleeping on paper thin straw ticks left over from the 1930s unless they bought their own mattress.
