Hello all. As an alternative to company sponsored schools, I have been looking into something closer to home. Shelton State is only a 10-20 minute drive from my home and the tuition is pretty affordable. Shouldn't take me too long to save up for it. Anyone have any recent experience with them? And if so, were you able to get a job right out of school? I've saw some threads from like 3-5 years ago and would love something a bit more up to date. Thanks in advance.

How many hours is the cdl program? If it's a minimum of 160 hrs. then there's dozens of companies that will hire you.

One thing you can do is call the companies you want to work for and ask if they will hire you from that school. They will all probably say yes because it's a community college 280 hr. program. Get all the endorsements while you're there because they are money in the bank.Do you know what type trucking you want?

Here's some good OTR companies and they all hire new cdl grads.
Abilene Motor Express
Freymiller
Britton Transport
Schuster
Navajo Express
Tyson Foods
Magnum Ltd.
B&G Supply
Abilene trucks run 68 mph which is probably the fastest you'll find that hire new cdl grads.Whatever the speed is , you get used to it anyway. It's the money that matters.
Freymiller website has "experience required" but that's out of date; they do hire new cdl grads.
Apply to as many as you want; the more the better.Last edited: Jul 11, 2016
