"No you can take a skillful driver or professional driver, they can make at least 80% or more shifts with out the double clutching procedure. How ever for every misshift they make it progressively causes damage to the transmission."
So one is to gather that "floating" gears does not damage the transmission missshifting does. -
Exactly! The damage is from forcing a miss instead of coming to neutral and retrying.

Your clutch = cheap. Your transmission = not as cheap. Your knee = expensive as hell.

I could probably handle double clutching if I was OTR but I drive in town, in traffic all day pulling in and out pits, stopping and going in front of a mill I will float until they somehow force me to clutch. I don't perceive that happening at my company since to get hired you have to float. Yup thats right the guy that does the on roads makes sure you can float. He is also one of the mechanics.

Not so. There is no need to release the throttle completely to "float". If done correctly, you can float up and down with the jake switch "on" and never have the jakes engage.kajidono Thanks this.

I have an easy solution to my jakes, theres a pause button for the cruise on the shifter that I hold down. No worry about jake shifting at all then. Otherwise I leave the jakes off until I am in my cruising gear.

But he fails to mention how many misshifts the double clutchers do. Just because you double clutch doesn't mean you can't grind them. So that statement doesn't bear much weight. I would think the double clutchers that don't know how to float would miss alot more than 20%.Mommas_money_maker and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

Good point. Although I think with double clutching you are more likely to not grind. The clutch is there to break torque, there are times for it and I think everyone that floats will also clutch in certain situations.
