Hey guys ,
How did you shift your detroit 12.7 L . 13 speed , ? When heavy I am splitting every gear and not going over 15. I let it drop to 11 before down shifting... I have been getting 6.2 pulling 46k driving through WEST. I believe I can get better I am just not used to it yet.
How would you shift it for BEST MPG ? any advice?>
Here is the copy of my Dyno ...

Drive it like there is a baby in stroller not tied down on you trailer. Or like it going to fly apart in a million pieces and youwant to get home!
buddyvuk Thanks this. -

Thats right.....take it easy...then you will not use up you brakes in the Pilot, Flying J, TA, Petro, oh yea or the loves....and mostly when you stop on the shoulder, to go in your sleeper,......its OK to jam on it then and throw the baby off, while the rest of use try not crash moving left when you are sitting, and jamming on it getting back out. Upshift using only enough RPM to get into the next gear smoothly.
Downshift around 1100, but if it will pull the hill at 1100, do it.
Don't split on the way down unless you know you wont need to drop anymore gears. I drop a gear and a half at a time.
Ease off the throttle cresting a hill and let momentum carry you over the top and gravity down the other side.
46,000 gross or payload? 6.2 in the west with 46,000 payload isn't all that bad. -
learn your power band.
The DDS60 likes 1500 to 1650 for pulling hills.
It likes to cruise 1375 to 1425 on rollers and flat ground. Even bumping to 1450 can make a real difference in pulling some of the bigger rollers.
And talk to Rebel127 to get that thing tuned. Especially if it's an old fleet truck. It will come alive on you like you would not believe.dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
What year is this motor? In the 90's the s60 liked 1450-1550 but I've heard that EGR versions liked 1350-1450 cruising speed.

well, if you're doing 64 and you come upon a truck doing 63 it's okay to back off a couple clicks. You don't have to pull out and tie up the hammer land for 1/2 hour. lol, just sayin'. It's also okay to mash on it and get around a guy, Sometimes fuel economy can take a backseat to common courtesy.
Also, if some knucklehead wants to pass you and he's only going a tad bit faster than you it's okay to back it down a couple clicks and let them around. you can bump it back up when you're going downhill and not mess up your mileage.
