I usually shift a 13spd.........and have no problems. We also have a 10spd that I drive very, very little......just enough to know I really, really don't like that 5-to-6.........so I'm really glad that engine is 500hp.
However, we just bot a 9spd........that was advertised as a 10spd.......so I am a little concerned that whomever was driving it most of the time thought it was a 10spd.
Like a dumb butt, I did not check the Eaton shift tag above the door before I drove it home.......
(I would have bot the tractor anyway-------9 or 10-----so I just did not check the tranny very closely.)
That tag says the shift pattern is left front = R left rear = low. then to right, front is 1, with 2 to the rear, then 3 to right at front, and 4 straight back...............flip the lever, 1 becomes 5, 2 = 6, 3 = 7, 4 = 8.
HOWEVER..........when I was bringing it home, I thought it was a regular ten spd, and I downshifted from what I thought was 7 into what I thought was 6.........ie into the low hole with the lever flipped up. Gears engaged, and it seemed that it was "6", although things felt a little "scratchy". Fortunately, I had no load, and the shift was smooth and not forced.
What do I have, what damage has probably been done, and what could happen in the future?
We will check the tranny Monday AM and get a model number.....but a replaced tranny is totally illogical..................but I thought maybe you fellows could provide some insight anyway.
Thanks for the help.
Shifting 9spd vs regular 10spd....
