Not necessarily, we only show company ID and are told to never show drivers license. If they have a problem with it too bad we leave.

The only place I've personally heard that it must be a DL is at a Malwart DC guard shack....but they don't make copies or even right down your info...they just look at it and give it back

How about this. Apply thru the Post Office for a United States Passport. The credit card version is 75 bucks the full wallet size is about 125.00. When it comes to ID a US Passport supersedes any state issued CDL License. That said, before I retired 2 years ago most of my regular stops didn't want to see my Passport, just my CDL License. Under our Teamster contract all we had to show was our company ID. And sometimes we were refused because of it. After a while dispatch knew not to send certain drivers to certain customers. I had several companies accept my Passport, but only because someone their new the value of a US Passport to ID a driver. I agree with don't show the CDL crowd. If you have to deliver to a Military reservation, you must show your state CDL or if you have one they will accept a US Passport. If you don't, you will not be granted access until you comply with THEIR rules. A private company, whole
    different ballgame. von.

They can bring out a 500 page manifesto for the reason they want to see my CDL. Still will not happen. Refuse me, my company can fire me because of my being stubborn, & I will look for a new source of income. Only on a military reservation will I allow them to copy my CDL or Passport. Years ago I delivered to Hill AFB in Ogden, UT. At the time (1980) it had 2 fighter wings & Nuclear weapons on the base. It is the largest parts & repair facility for the USAF in the world. Showing ID was a breeze compared to the search of the tractor & trailer just to the right of the gate entrance. It was a staging area for all incoming loads. Some times I actually had to drive across the taxiways (with an escort) to reach my delivery point. If you went to the bathroom, you were escorted to the door & they waited outside the door until you were finished. Now I don't know. But back the they took their security seriously. No comprise at all. You were escorted the entire time you were on base. von.
