I understand the responses and I agree with a lot of them. We've shut the doors and driven away before and if they will allow us to be on the dock, we are there. My thing is...Why isn't there more of a movement to regulate other pieces of the industry as we are. It's fundamentally not right. Instead of getting stressed and playing hardball with whomever or having to go back to a shipper to get a load adjusted or slightly reduced in weight because it wouldn't scale correctly, we should have the satisfaction of knowing that there will be recourse for these companies that don't abide...that don't do their jobs correctly. They have that satisfaction...if we don't have our ducks in order, we're not gonna last long out here. They shouldn't either...without having to pay fines or a consistent, fair detention number across the board or without a downgrade system for their crappy shipping practices. What's the difference?

Excuse me for jumping in, but does anyone else think that the government is at least partly to blame for the way we get treated? I'm not really one of these anti-govt. people either. I'm just saying. I mean, we do make a decent wage overall but other people who work "regular" jobs get things like 15 minute breaks, a minimum wage per hour worked, etc. but when you become a truck driver you instantly become some sort of third class citizen and lose all of your rights. Basically it's "You have the right to go back to flipping burgers." I just don't get how it has gone on for as long as it has.
It boggles my mind how truck drivers REFUSE to stick together and go to the top like a lot of other interest groups and tell the people being voted into office that, "HEY...we are going to vote against you unless you do what we want and change these ancient railroad/labor laws we are working under that allow these companies to take advantage of us."
I have sat at shippers for 10 HOURS and not been paid for it because "the shipper doesn't pay detention". That's total BS. I left that job because of that.68Goat Thanks this. -
What are you going to do when you run out of brokers with that unprofessionanal behavior?

The only group of people who say you have a "bad attitude" are the ones that are trying to cheat you, decieve you, or keep you from money that you should be paid!!!
Why should a driver (company or O/O) feel bad because he wants to be paid for time spent(or wasted) at a shipper/reciever??? I guarantee if you were late picking up/delivering their load, they wouldn't feel bad about charging you money!!!
Maybe if more drivers had that "bad attitude" then the industry might actually change!!!

Not a trucker myself, but I wonder if trying to use some honey instead of vinegar with shipping and receiving would help you. I know, the bread delivery guy that comes to my full time job, will often give the guys a few honey buns for fast response. Might or might not help to build that rapport up with them.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Google review is your friend. Anytime I use google GPS and find the company i p/u or del to, I leave a review. Just like you can leave a note for any truckstop.
