ok, this is my first post here, and i hope i get it right.
i am not a trucker, however i am a hd truck/trailer mechanic (37 yrs) and while i can fix just about anything that goes wrong with a truck, i have no friggin clue how to get a 40ft shipping container from tacoma washington to a small town in central kansas (florence 66851)
here is what i will have,
a 40 ft shipping container on a standard 2 axle chassis
loaded to about 35k lbs (actually probably under that but want to be safe), it will have mostly my personal crap, iron, tooling, household junk, and my 55 chevy project car (without fuel tank)
i am looking for someone with a truck that can back under my chassis, connect the glad hands, plug in the 7 way and hit the road for kansas.
my timeline is anytime within the month of june, possibly july if need be.
i will pack the junk sufficiently well so that it can make the trip without worry, except if the rig is rolled on its side in a wreck.
so far trying to find a broker that can get his head around shipping a container across country has been like speaking martian, the best i have gotten so far is someone to dead head all the way out from kansas and drag this can back.
it just seems to me that there ought to be someone or someplace to post this load, where a trucker that has brought out another trailer and now is looking for a back haul could do it?
i have no problem paying the going rate, i just don't want to pay both ways if i don't have to?
where does one go to post a load such as this?
any help is appreciated
thanks

Check out Uship.com.
Also you look for any of the companies that provide power units only...
Power source trans,or trailer transit.....To name a couple. -
You might try one way trailers. We could do it but would have to compensated both ways.
Actually no we can't you would probably need a household goods mover for that kinda freight.Last edited: Feb 13, 2011

Trailer Transit is a power unit only company. -
Just Google POWER ONLY TRANSPORT and you should find a few outfits that do just that ..

If you have the time and aren't in too big a hurry to get it. You might want to check on an intermodel company in your area. They could get it to a rail head for you--and have it shipped there by rail--then p/u @closest rail yard and bring it to you--probably would be much cheaper!
Just my $.02 -
thanks guys!
i have contacted both referenced power unit companies
and am awaiting their replies
as it turns out i have an intermodel broker just down the street about a half mile, that i am going to check on rail shipping on monday.
i really appreciate the help, i can't tell you how frustrated i was getting dealing with trying to find a way to ship this thing.
thanks again

Just to verify, your 2 axle chassis is a standard container chassis used in port and rail yards, right ? Still curious, do you own this chassis ? Is it roadable and registered ? I'm visualizing a chassis sitting in your back yard for months or years with bald tires and who knows what else. At the same time, I've seen containers being pulled on 2 axle low boys or even 2 axle 40' type car carriers. Just want to be sure you understand what is needed for this journey.

the container is fresh off the container lot as is the chassis
both are roadworthy and will be checked out thoroughly be me and will also have an annual dot inspection done prior to me buying the chassis.
having been a hd mechanic and done all manner of repairs and maintenance on class 8 tractors and trailers for just at 37 years, mean i would not expect a driver to risk his equipment, his life or that of anyone else on the roadway with anything less than a fully road worthy, dot inspected and otherwise visually acceptable piece of equipment.
i value my junk, however i value a drivers equipment and his life for more!
short answer? no this is not something that has been sitting in the backyard for years.
thanks
