I am going to be transporting a travel trailer from Oregon to Alaska. What do I need to have at the Canadian border? Is there anything I need to do before hand? I am hoping to do this on a regular bassis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NO FRESH FRUIT or VEGETABLES. I have found that the border crossing in the lower 48 (Alaska talk) are more strict concerning the policies. Alaska to Canada border is pretty easy going but can also be a pain. Canada still can require you to carry $2000 (dating back to the Gold Rush Yukon Days) or prove that you are financially support yourself in case you get stranded. A letter from your bank will do for that. No hand guns (depending on the Border Guard) are allowed in Canada. Rifle are OK but you need a trigger guard and make it accessible for the guard to inspect. Animals need current records and shots. Once again this isn't practiced all the time. There have been times that I was asked two questions and then let in (passenger car). Commercial Vehicles are a different story. This should help you at the border link. Good luck and take a camera.
Note: Buy "Mile Post" -
You will need to have a Canadian Customs Bond and fill out an in-transit manifest before you get to the border. When you get to Alcan U.S. Customs will stamp your manifest and sign off on it. Make sure you keep copies of this paperwork.
You will need to purchase licencing for Alaska and the Yukon. Also for B.C. if you don't already have B.C. -
I've heard that $2000 story... in all the times I've crossed the boarder on the Alcan, I've never been asked to prove I have money. They have asked about guns and plants - never about the critter's shot records.
Granted, it's all been in my POV...
One time, though, I did spend about 6 hours at the border crossing in Blain (Vancouver)... had a dog come out and sniff the car .. he didn't hit, but they stripped the car anyway. Then they put it back together, apologized for the delay and sent my on my way. Good thing I'd brought a couple books.
