I have an older Jeep, so no tps, thank God, and they charged me .55 cents a tire for disposal they did grind the beads on the rims, so maybe a grinding disc was ruined, and they want YOU to pay for that.

I still can't wrap my head around how dealers in the US are getting away with $200/hr shop rates. Most dealers in my area are charging significantly less than that for field service calls.

From what I’ve seen the “shop supplies” is largely a bs charge. I saw a bill for shop supplies for replacing the starter on my sisters car one time and all I could think was the dude must’ve had to take a #### and figured the tp was a shop supply. I’ve done it once before on her car….it involves nothing more than 2 bolts and 2 wires. We have a shop and work on lots of stuff for other people. Generally we do more welding, machining and fabrication than wrenching but we do plenty of that as well. I never bill for “shop supplies”. I don’t usually bill separately for any small stuff like bolts or brake cleaner. I do bill for solvent if it’s an overhaul because the parts washer is getting a thorough cleaning and new solvent before we start….don’t even try to talk me out of that. I will bill for welding wire and or gasses if we use most of a container on your job. Probably for hardware if I have to order something that I don’t stock. Maybe for grease if we’re using tubes. I generally don’t think it’s economical for me to try to keep track of every little thing like bolts or silicone.

So you charge enough to cover the extra costs for those misc things but don't put a line item on the bill for "shop supplies". Same difference really?

I disagree it's a huge difference! one is the total charge for a service. The other is an ad on to the total bill, that varies by who knows how much and why.

Yeah you pay for the shop supplies they just don't note it on the invoice. Same difference only you feel warm and fuzzy that they didn't note they charged you $16 for the can of brake cleaner, they still charged you for it.
