There're rate books for working on equipment.

This must be a very special day.........finally one thing I could agree with @ZVar about. (I think he must be moving over to the Dark Side).

"This is what you said I owed, and that is what I payed. Go screw yourself"......(or the next guy because that's probably what you'll do anyway.)

$4000? A vast array of possibilities.
Tires on the trailer and brake shoes and drums replacement would easily exceed that at any shop. The parts alone.
Besides, nobody told the op to look for help at the TA. If they are crooks, then I am even more amazed he went to them for help.
TA individual shop workers should not have any direct benefit from screwing the customers as every charge is accounted for and processed by their integrated register.

    Vitkouski and 201 Thank this.

An invoice is not a contract, but there are general rules that are followed. Calling and asking for more money on a fully paid invoice is sketchy as heck.

I would need a written explanation of the revised invoice or the original invoice refunded and a new one issued. I would also be sending a check and not giving a credit card over the phone.

Pay what you owe, but everything about this screams scam to me.

There're a few different books that give a general shop rate(how long it should take)for each job. Plus parts.

    JoeyJunk and N00bLaLoosh Thank this.

Tell them to call your lawyer. If you have a receipt or stamped paid invoice, then they basically screwed themselves. Hire dumb people, get dumb outcomes.

That's what I say all along.
Pay for what you owe. If they forgot the labor charge, which the op did not clarify for us yet, then he had better do it. If they make something up then no so fast...common sense, ok?
If I ever find out he gets away without paying on the premise that they forgot about the charge, and he says " f..them, they are crooks anyway"
I would never do business with someone like that.

If it's legit, pay it. You'd expect the same if you made a mistake on an invoice. Treat them the way you'd expect to be treated.

    That's it!
Surprisingly, or not, some members here are insinuating not paying, no matter what, legit or not, while I am sure that when they are screwed on detention, layovers, not to mention the whole invoices, they would raise hell and create epic threads here and all the laws in the universe would have to make them right.

Vitkouski, Bean Jr., Siinman and 3 others Thank this.
