I would be surprised if this question has never been asked before. What exactly is the reason why tanker trucks run shorter exhaust stacks? Ive also heard tanker trucks can't run out the bottom exhaust. Ive got some theories as to why but Im still curious about the official reason. Before anybody says "you should have done a search." I did and couldn't find anything. Thanks

Never heard the bottom exhaust thing, but the shorter exhaust is because of clearance issues at loading racks. I've been to several places with 12'6" clearance, and one that was 12', at least according to the sign.

Some hazmat places don't allow bottom exhaust due to flammable fumes. Other than that I haven't heard of any reason.
