Thanks for your input. I've considered building an L10 or mechanical M11 and having it ready for whenever the day comes. The rest of the driveline I feel is spec'd proper enough to handle a GCWR of around 73K. There probably would be some surprises though putting more stress on the existing components. Thanks again for your input.

Wheel base on a single axle is measured center of front axle ( Spindle ) to the center of the rear axle.
The wheel base on a tandem is measured from the the center of the front axle to the center of the tandems. The shortest I recall were 9670 tandems at 155". Bobtail in the rain they were not to far from the kids sit and spin toy.
When you get into all those modifications you will be much better off spending that time shopping for what you want. That engine is great but way under powered for the job. Just my opinion.spsauerland, 062 and BJW27 Thank this. -

Best to read up on your states bridge law if dead set on adding axle. Used to be adding 20K tag axle with frame extension would increase your WB was the way to go. I have never seen a mechanical M11 in a truck either, only Celect versions. Seen plenty of L10's that were mechanical or electronic.
BoxCarKidd and 062 Thank this. -

2 things
1) Check state laws on modifying truck/ gvw/ adding axles
2) Check your state's bridge formula. I don't know about a short tractor, but you need a certain bridge between your axles
Also, a longer wheelbase gives more stability with a dump trailer and live axles would help also for traction.
