If the boss is willing to take a chance on you i would do it. The Union shops pay their drivers over $1.00/mile plus benefits.

Don't misunderstand me here. If this guy will hire you go there and learn the trade get a couple years experience under your belt, then maybe try and get on with Cassens or Jack Cooper, ect.

I think he's crazy to hire a new driver but ill take the exp. Does 25% of what the truck makes a week sound ok for pay? I made 38% towing.

I don't know if 25% is good or not comsidering allot of trips do not have back haul, Depends on his business. I hauled cars as my first CDL job. Wild and wooly. Very dirty especially in winter. Good way to start though. Go for it.

Most of the steel and machinery outfits that pay percentage pay right around that no. Seems fair to me.

I'll go for training tomorrow and draw up a plan... but I have to say something is telling me to sign on with a big company like Riehl or millis. HEY is there a site that takes you how trucking is doing. Like what freight and type of freight is moving and growth?

So how does he get the experience? Take a job and go with it. I'm sure towing cars in NJ is no day at the beach and he does have some solo experience. That's how i learned. Rode with some guys locally, single axle dump, tandem dump rode with a guy who did local carry-all work, went OTR in a day cab. Guy offered me the OTR job and i took it. Was supposed to train with one of the other guys, the Co. had too much work,so the put me in a semi and said see you later.

    ChillWill and papa1953 Thank this.
