well....many of us, were born to parents that worked, no matter the job (and they nearly NEVER job hopped), and we would see BOTH parents go to work, and come home.
that ingrained into our heads...to "just work"......
yes, there are slackers, abusers, and some never get caught at it...but then too i look at it this way....
they most likely have a dead end job, the boss gave them, that if the job does not get done on time, so what....they ain't going nowhere's anyway's.....
the ones that DO get caught, might get fired for "stealing time", the next job will be aware of this....and here ya go...another dead end job.
Should cpm be changed to hourly for all drivers?

Some of you have worked for very understanding bosses. The lazy drivers were always called out by my Boss as well as fellow drivers. After all we would have to pick up their slack. They didn’t last long. Why would that be any different if we were paid by the hour? Higher wage jobs would require better workers or if they are lazy they could move on to an easier job with pay that would reflect that and make room for better workers.

The point is, paid by mile, or paid by hour, you are still being paid for the whole job, it doesn't matter and checks will not be magically be getting better by going hourly, especially in long haul. There is just so much money going to the truck, a portion of which goes to the driver, that same truck is still going to bring in the same amount , that the driver will still get the same percentage in the end. Yep the truck owner/company can now tell a customer, you are taking too long to load, I won't be back, now guess what driver has one less customer, and less work, somebody has been waiting for that job.
A drivers main job is make the truck pay the owner, when it gets down to the truck not profiting enough for the headache the owner has, it gets parked and or sold, period. -
This entire issue applies only to company drivers of course. Maybe it's just me, but I sometimes get the impression that drivers agitating for hourly pay tend to miss that point.jbird05031126, stuckinthemud and bryan21384 Thank this. -

From where I’m sitting...
I see guys that are well paid, in a fantastic job...that can’t seem to do the bare minimum asked of them... The cream of the crop, isn’t so great...so why should I think that the problem here is the way drivers are paid...????Last edited: Jun 18, 2019

Now, lets say every driver gets paid by the hour, do we pay every body the same, do we pay them according to what they are worth.
Do we start them all at an extremely low rate till we determine what they are worth what would you suggest would be the best way to make this work?bryan21384 and Dan.S Thank this.
