Should I ask for an inspection so brokers will work with me?

I.......just can’t. I won’t say they are the enemy they are a necessary evil for sure, we are however on different teams. I have made my livin stayin outta sight outta mind.....habits are hard to break. We had a local DOT I’m proud to call friend, I said something to him one day about an inspection. In a serious tone he said you best be #### sure your ready. I understood what he meant and dropped it. That Saturday he come by in his flowerdy Bermuda shorts and said let’s look at the ol truck right quick. He found things I never woulda thought the man was a machine. 3 weeks later I’m easin through town when the blue lights come on, I got my inspection. Headed home from a fair size circle. Log book and all I got my inspection......and a sticker. I also will say I learned a lot from him especially about log books

Every time I’m a “tad” over 80k and I see a DOT man I pucker. I’ve not been inspected in close to 5 years. Just waiting for the day 1 runs my numbers and decides he needs to check me out.
Myself, I’m not going to kick a sleeping dog. Go load elsewhere.

There’s a reason shipper’s, receivers and brokers look at those numbers. They don’t want to find themselves in court justifying their actions when a fly by night company runs over someone and kills them. I’m not suggesting any of our fine members of this forum are fly by nighters, but if they don’t know you then they don’t know.

The CVSA blitz is next week. Maybe you’ll get one then. I think it’s the 17-19th.

I think you would be wise to not ask for trouble. It could go either way for any reason. Got checked once hauling steel beams with chains that were literally flapping in the wind and not a bit of trouble. I am not proud of that but the dumb a that loaded them more or less just dumped them in a pile and they were shifting and nesting inside themselves so every bump things moved and I pretty much gave up on tightening them every 10 miles. Another time with my tandem dump truck it didn’t go so well lots of nitpicking about stuff that really was more opinions than facts.

From what I read in the Reddit broker subreddit was that they need them to verify that you are using the truck to haul loads and aren’t just a double broker.
