unless you have 0 dollar in your bank account, why not just pay for the cdl yourself and have more option to choose for where you gonna work as a fresh newbie ? if they accept new graduate then they will reimburse your school tuition

Spoke with tmc today. They will only take me for on the road training if I already have my CDL. They don’t help you get your CDL

I pretty much have $0 in the bank. I’m one broke fella. I’m 26 and spoke with my dad and he’s been telling me I can never recover time back. I was going to university at one point where I messed it up after a year, then I joined the Navy out of desperation and got out because it wasn’t for me. So the years have been rolling by without much to show for it. That’s why I’m at the point where I’m saying screw everything, screw these jobs paying me almost nothing by the hour, I am going trucking. I lived with my girlfriend for about 2 years where most of our money went to bills and had very little for ourselves too. Yeah, the system is rough. Better off on the road for a few years

And "average" can also mean these drivers over here are running the behinds off and these drivers are killing time 3-4 days a week.

NEVER JOIN A COMPANY UNTIL YOU TALK TO CURRENT DRIVERS DOING WHAT YOU ARE GETTING HIRED TO DO! The OP should ask the company to put him into contact with drivers at the same yard doing the same work.

Go to Tmc.. that’s why I said get your cdl through Swift academy and go to Tmc after you get it. Tmc will pay for the academy through tuition reimbursement.

Swift academy is like 3 weeks . probably the cheapest and fastest school also

Slow your roll there. You’re counting money you’re never going to get.

First, did you happen to ask what top pay is? You don’t get raises forever. It eventually tops out.

Second, you’ll be in training. Then you’ll be in the learning phase. No one here believes for a moment you’ll be balls to the wall threatening the old drivers existence ;)

Third, How does safety and fuel bonuses effect your raises? Some companies require you to hit a benchmark to qualify for raises. Did you ask?

I’ve worked for very few companies that could deliver on miles promised with consistency. A few exceptions for sure. But you learn real quick that there is a point where it is no longer beneficial. Taxes ;)

Sounds like the pressure of “ What do you want to be when you grow up”. has you cornered. I know the feeling as most everyone that Works for a living does. However more thought than “I guess I’ll try Trucking” needs to be done. I guarantee You’ll be disappointed with Trucking also.Every Driver knows that feeling. It’s not your only choice. Lots of Guys your age get roommates and work while taking Classes. Getting into Trucking for a couple of yrs only, usually doesn’t payoff very well, lots of People do it,but it ends with no more of a game plan than when they started. Just wasted time. I’m not trying to shoot your ambition down, but You need to realize the Commitment it Takes. No doubt You Can Learn the Job. There’s just so much more to it than Most realize. Like everything else though it what YOU make of it. You think hourly Jobs suck, wait till Your working for about 60% of what this job should pay. That’s why more Drivers are needed. This Industry is a mess. Always has been, Chew you up and spit You out. More Where You came from.
