Hey all I'm leaving Sunday to start start my training with Prime ( God willing that I pass that DOT physical) and was wondering, should I bring my laptop with me? I am bringing everything else that I need, clothes, personal hygiene, sleeping bag, birth cert., ss card, notebook/pen, phone, camera, etc. Is it worth the risk of it getting stolen or should I wait until I make it through the training and start out on my own? I like to use Google maps a lot when I travel to research the area before I drive into it. Which I find hard to do using google maps on my phone.
Should I bring my laptop with me to training?

I would leave it at home until you are settled. I know it could be boring for a bit, but better than losing or damaging it.
Bring what you absolutely need.jshkorn Thanks this. -
I brought mine along with me during training and I also recommend Streets & Trips as well, as it is available whether you have an Internet connection or not. Moreover, Streets & Trips and Google Earth together are both wonderful tools, because you can pushpin the driver entranceways to the shippers and receivers in Google Earth, access the pushpin properties, and then copy and paste the pushpin coordinates directly into Streets & Trips to make Streets & Trips give you turn-by-turn directions directly into your shipper and receiver entrancways. It doesn't get any better, less stressful, or easier than that.
jshkorn and southpaw2153 Thank this. -

besides,i am almost positive that you have a smartphone to eliminate being incommunicado and i know that prime trucks have all the technology you'll ever need equipped in those trucks,so much so that i am betting that you'll tire of it.

Bring anything you can fit in your bunk or the one probable cubby hole you are going to be allowed to use with your trainer. Remember that you are going to be a guest in his "house". Think of it like you were visiting your wife's family on thanksgiving. You wouldn't put groceries in their refrigerator because you know her brother would eat them. You wouldn't throw your suitcase on her parents bed, because they would throw it out on the street. You wouldn't throw all your toiletries in their medicine cabinet because they would probably toss what they don't use and bogart what they do use. You wouldnt unplug the chargers to their phone, computer, or fridge so you can charge your computer to get on facebook, or they would probably take a kershaw pocket knife and cut the power cord, or worse, accidently spill a beverage over the keyboard to make a point. Finally, you wouldn't hang your dirty drawers where they eat and sleep, because they would take you for a ride and drop you off at the bus station expecting you to find your own way back.
Trainers and mentors are like your in-laws. Sure, they love you like a son. Just don't eat their groceries, mix your grooming products with theirs, unplug any of their gadgets, and leave your dirty drawers in the same spot that they are making themselves a sandwich or taking a nap. The only problem you will be solving is figuring out who gets the window seat on the grey dog, you, or the recently paroled cat who will talk your ear off for the 28 hour bus ride home.airforcetoo Thanks this. -
