One of my previous jobs I drove a Cummings T680 13 speed for about a year. Nicest truck I've ever driven. My regular week was from northern California to Denver, down to Texas then home. It was wide open and did great at the speed limit through TX, AZ and NM. Had a Speedco oil and lube every 18,000 miles and it ran like a top. A lot more solid with fewer rattles than a Cascadia and the sleepers are roomy and comfortable. I had the fridge behind the driver's seat and could open it for a drink while I was driving. The suspension took a bumpy road like a luxury SUV. It was an all around nice truck. They tend to be a bit heavier than other trucks, so you may have to adjust weight on loads differently than you're used to.

Casper is heavier than most. APU & chains 35,000 and change with less than half tanks.

Only when it snows in Phoenix. :)
    Seriously...are you wanting, or needing?

Well, it's a little of both. I'm gonna get ### raped on taxes, so need to spend some, smartly.
But I'd like the bigger sleeper, better cruising speed, and better ride.

Check with your accountant, but you might be better off from a tax perspective leasing a new KW rather than buying, and your payments would be lower. Lease payments are 100% deductible compared with only the interest on the loan and 5 years of depreciation. You also have little or no money down on a lease. The new tax laws kind of changed things around.

Then you're in for a life of payments... Blah. Surely there must be some other investments that can defer or reduce your tax exposure. I'm currently thinking about calling an investment broker to see what options are out there; alas I procrastinate.

Known, unknown but new? I'm so stodgy, I can't even think about payments except possibly for a new(used) trailer.

What's your take on Halbers********? I noticed they had some runs open out of PHX, seem like nice equipment when I see them running. Kinda odd runs; hook to a preload, drive a few hundred miles, and hit grocery store docks in ABQ or ElPaso.

They will run your nuts off. Very nice equipment. Terminal manager in Phoenix is Marcus.
    He's hiring.
He was looking for people to do a dedicated Phoenix to Nephi run. 5 days / 3000 miles. All D&H. No clue on pay.

I would do it as a lease / purchase. Casper is a lease / purchase. $101 buyout.

4 years is not life. You can payoff early with no penalty and still get full deduction on your taxes.

You should lease / purchase a trailer. Arizona has insentives for small business. You avoid the state sales tax.

wore out and fargonaz Thank this.
