    Hi Guys,

I'm currently hauling 40 ft containers about 160km's one way. The loads are between 21,000kg to 25,000 kg. And once a week I will be hauling from toronto to new jersey. I am currently driving a 07 freightliner columbia 470 detroit 60 series 13 speed. I'm thinking of making the change in the summer to either a freightliner classic motor options 475 cat/ 515 detroit. My other option is a pete 379 with 475 cat or 475 isx cummins. Both 13 speed. I know hands down the pete is the better performer. But I also have to take into consideration Fuel. So my question to you all is how much of a difference is mpg between the 2 trucks? Would it be worth getting the pete or am I just spending way too much more on fuel?

    Thank you!

I'm voting for the barn door it's a known fact they get better fuel mileage than a brick.

The Detroit will get the best mpg over a cat and isx. I would take a Pete because it looks nicer, but the classic makes a bit more sense. I know the Pete with a cat will do 5.5. The classic with a Detroit will get about 6.5. Mpg really comes down to how you drive. If you want a good looking truck that will always hold its value and be a timeless cosmic l classic, get the Pete. But if you are focused more on the bottom line, get the classic.

I was told about the same but bought a 379 pete with cat anyways and now get avererage 7+ mpg out of this pete. 379 pete get a bad fuel economy rep because most drive them faster.
Though I do think a detroit 60 series is slightly better fuel effeciency motor. And freightshakers are cheaper to work on.

I have a 12,7L series 60 470 hp in my unit and I get far better MPG over two of our other trucks hauling similar loads/terrain/weight with a 470 cummins and a 475 cat.

I prefer the looks of a Pete and would much rather drive a cat but if you're looking at the bottom line, go with the shaker with the detroit(or preferably cat) and go from there!!

What's wrong with the Columbia (besides the obvious)?

Anyway, Pete with CAT is my vote. Are these trucks sitting around for sale or are you gonna have to go hunt one down?

Tune the truck you have and keep it because you could get much better mpg. No reason to get rid of a truck just because.

If you don't have any problems with your Columbia, I would suggest to keep it.

wich one is the barn door? The classics have the same hood as the 379 well they look a lot alike. Is one really more aero then the other truck ?
To the op classic are cheaper 379 looks better and hold their value more when trying to sell. I choose an aero truck but when I see a 379 I wish I did other wise just my 2cents.

I'd rather walk than drive anymore Freightliners. The ones I drove had gaps at the top of the door and bounced so high the stuff on the dash would fly off. See my pic? Truckereddy is correct? He gets a 100 on his paper!
