I never wanted the columbia. Only got it because I started running freight on open board. But now I'm running shorter runs and 70miles? i go 60 miles an hour lol. But yea I know hands down the pete is the better truck. I just wanted to know how much of a difference in fuel there is between the 2 if say they had the same motor? like both with a cat 475? Like if the difference isn't that much more then the better truck is the better choice. But if i'm spending way more in fuel consumption then the cheaper one will have to do. Its just I always hear from alot of people oh don't buy a pete its a gas pit. But they've never owned a pete. So I thought I'd ask people here that have actually owned one and can give me a better outlook.
Thanks
Should I buy a Pete 379 or Freightliner Classic?

There are 379's out there with Detroit motors, or you could get a fitz glider Pete with a detroit, all depends on what you can afford.

Most of the o/o are running classics, fld's or volvo's.

why would one be more aero than the other??? They are both almost the same!! W900, classic FL, 379, international long nose, get it............as long as its not a flat top, that will kill your mpg, I had one and put a aero top on it, increased mpg 20%

I like them both. It boils down to how much $$ you want in your wallet. Pete parts cost more. Freightliner parts are more easy to get. Both motors are great. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There both fantastic trucks. I drive a Western Star. It's a little different from stock. I think it's beautiful. Polish companies send me Xmas Presents. I'm just an old Driver. If You like it, that's all that counts.

The Freightliner Classic and the 379 Peterbilt will do about the same on fuel if they have the same engine and drive train. If the Classic is a condo the Peterbilt will probably beat it on fuel mileage if pulling a flat.
If you want better fuel mileage go with the aero style truck. Also if you drive 60mph or below there will be little difference in mileage in the aero verses the square hood.
If you want the fuel mileage and the Pete the best bet would be a glider with the pre-emission Detroit or an older model with a Detroit such as a 2003 or older without egr. -

I only haul heavy haul. My roof line don't matter. As I know it, been told, aero dynamics built in to reefers compensate for a low roof dynamic. Some dry box. I never discuss my rates. I factor in mileage with weight. If you don't understand me, stay with a company till you do. Mega companies want to see your failure. It's a war. I don't understand why anyone would want to be a Truck driver. So many other ways to make a living.
exhausted379 Thanks this.
