Focus on doing what you do best. Like others said in your case I’d go new and focus on doing good business. Maybe a new KW 680 with X15 and endurant 12 speed trans. Get the 5 yr 500k factory warranty. Don’t pay over 150k.

No need to be an all out mechanic to be an owner operator if your not working cheap. The ability to operate a grease gun and other simple preventative maintenance procedures goes a long way. Even if you wont be wrenching on it crawling under your truck on a regular basis and spotting trouble ahead of time is a must new or old.

There should be a minimum of mechanical skills and tools expected form an owner operator. I've seen people checking in at those lousy TA/Petros/Loves shops with stupid things such as changing turn signal bulbs or a ripped off mop flop....heck even windshield wipers replacement . That's just deplorable. It would be like a pro classic guitar player not knowing how to tune the strings.

New has warranty. But I’d rather buy older. I have a couple trucks and none are over 2012. Paid for and if they run or not. I have no payment to worry about.

A new truck will still need to be greased, have shocks changed out, airline fittings that will break, potentially leaky airbags etc etc.

A no TA or Speedco doesnt grease the entire truck, they might hit 25% of the zerk fittings on the truck, complete waist of money.

I should have became a lawyer, or a surgeon.
Sure they pay $200k or $300k for college. But they don't need to keep spending that same amount every 5 or so years. They do not have 50% overhead off the top like a truck owner. What was I thinking, I wanted to look cool I guess?

Is that 2 to 300k all your expenses for 5 years or you getting a new truck every 5 years?

I'm thinking just the truck, trailer.
I'm trying to make a plan. But not ever going to fulfill it.
