It's a 2000 Mack single axle day cab. It has an E7 motor with 250,000 miles. Should I stay away from Macks? is the E7 motor good?
Should I buy this Mack

Depends upon what you're going to do with it. If a single axle day cab is all you need, why wouldn't you buy it? I bought my 2001 CH (E7-460P) with 260K miles...up over 736K now and it's a good running truck. It is holding together better than the 2-3 year old company peterbilts & freightshakers.
Personally, doing what I do, I wouldn't buy anything BUT a Mack. -
Yes depending on price. ( U need to tell me ) I own a 98 CH with the E-7....good truck but very proprietary on parts and Mack is not cheap.
Tell me more and I'll give some things to look for before you buy but the mileage sounds great. -
My '03 has been a fairly good truck w/675k now. Turbo went out at 275k or so, $5,000 gone really quick. I have heard there have been some issues in those years of cranks and cams (good many) going prematurely also, but if the specimen you have your eye on has gotten quite a few miles on it either those parts were good or have been replaced (hopefully with better quality parts!).

Best I know only the 427 had cam issues. FYI: The E-7 has a weak oil pump and Mack knows it. They offer 2 retros and both move more volume cause the originals didn't put enough oil to the valve train. Gots me one of them by necessity and it's all that.
I also run the dog filter set ( $44.00 for 6 ) and Mystic 15w50 syn blend.......had an ole' dog runner tell me the Mystic has a high ash content that helps fill in the "scratches" from age. He continued to caution me that the crank is very sensitive and if you see or suspect something then drop a cap right away.
My dog has 778k, runs 65 lbs hot and idles at 28lbs. Alarm is set at 7 lbs shutdown. Mine has never been touched ( by Mack records ) except where I went in for the oil pump...... pulled a couple of caps and all was good.
And I'll toss this in too: My grief and my time on the hook started with a missing piece of oil dip stick...... that lil flat tab at the end that measures the oil ? Mine disapeared one day....... and I thought ok, it's on the bottom and i'll catch it on the magnet.......nope! Found it's way into the pump drive and shattered the pump drive gear. Also cost me a turbo a couple of weeks later.......
Good luck......
