Should I change the fuel-water seperator when I change the fuel filter?

    Howdy All,

My gauges tell me that I have 75 psi of fuel pressure but the fuel filter restriction gauge has gone from the green zone to the red. I have a C-15 Cat engine which has one fuel filter and a fuel-water separator, so should I replace the fuel-water separator when I replace the fuel filter? Thanks for any advice you can give.

  3. We are coming into the fuel blend change. It's always a good idea to swap out that filter and have one onboard

    Howdy peterbilt_2005,

Thanks for your quick reply. I figured it could do any harm so I am going to swap it out and add one to my list of spares, I have always carried extra fuel filters.

I change the FWS first since it is the primary filter it will clog before the secondary. I generally change the FWS 3-4 times before needing to change the secondary . Just change the FWS, start the truck and see what the gauge says.

It’s what I’ve been doing for the 6 years I’ve had my truck. And I carry spares of each.

  10. What year is your truck?

If prior to 2012 check your fuel lines to pump and cross-over between tanks.
Changing a fuel line to motor could help safe you a few bucks from starving motor of fuel. A lot of drivers neglect these lines as a truck gets older.

My truck is a 2001, it has the 6NZ C-15 Cat engine, as far as I know the fuel lines are clear but is something to check when I get back home about 2,000 miles from where I am now.
