Should I do it?

My plans have been to go to driving school, get CDL, go OTR for a year or two then come home and find a local driving job.

I know a guy that is a driver supervisor at a large soft drink company. He just emailed me and said they are about to hire local drivers. The one I'm interested in is a "bulk delivery" driver that works 4p until work is done delivering mainly to grocery stores.

I know that most of y'all advise against OTR. What do you think about skipping the OTR and just starting out local? Would doing this affect my ability to get a job somewhere else if I decided to leave that company and move on to another job?

If I wanted to go OTR at a later date, I guess that I would just have to go to school even though I already would have the CDL then to a student driver company, huh?

    Thanks for any advice/thoughts...

    Chuck

If it were me, I'd opt for the local job if you already have the right type of license to operate their equipment.

I currently do NOT have a CDL. I believe that he told me awhile back that they will work with you on getting the CDL. Anyway, he knows that I dont have the CDL.

Every soft-drink guy I've ever spoken with has enjoyed the job, though the long hours and amount of lifting sometimes get to them. Money is good enough to eliminate the desire for OTR.

I'd go for it myself. Good luck!
