Today, went to private CDL school for first lesson. And was given an instructor who only had 2 months teaching CDL students.
He had lots of trucking experience but not much experience teaching. Seemed like a nice guy.
They have other instructors. Should I ask for an experienced instructor?
Any thoughts?
Thanks for any advice.

I think I'd prefer one with lots of driving experience over lots of teaching experience. But that's just my 2 cents.
Truck4Fun, Bayle and BuckeyeCowboy63 Thank this. -
At one point we are all on the job for only 2 months. Probably doesn't have his routine down yet but if he cares and shows interest in you developing your skills I wouldn't worry.

I went to road master its a intense 16 day program. they had an instructor that had been driving for 25+ years he was a good teacher but not for me. we mixed like oil and water. I am type of person that take a lot. if I get to the point of ready to hit somebody it was an extreme for me. this person thought that I should have picked up shifting like the rest of class but rest of class new how to drive sticks but I had no clue never drove nothing before. some people cant teach. when his frustration increased because I couldn't shift. he would yell, snatch the shifter out my hand, etc. so when I made it back to yard. I went and talked to the owner of school. they made adjustment for me that teacher wasn't allowed to teach me nothing. SO IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE ask for different teacher. THIS BUSINESS you are not there to make friends.Truck4Fun Thanks this. -
I would not worry so much about about how much time he has teaching as how much he can teach YOU about what he knows.

You should give the guy a chance before throwing him under the training truck. I don't think he would bother getting involved in a trucking school if he had no interest in teaching new drivers. It can be intimidating teach in front of a group. So he's probably still nervous, whether he shows it or not. Wait to see how he does teaching you the driving skills.

he is the same as a "mentor" you get when you begin with a company, they are not really instructors but drivers who teach you how to drive. If he has been driving for a long time then he should know his stuff, to me it doesnt matter if you have been teaching for 2 months or 2 years, what matters is the knowledge and if they show you the correct methods of doing things.

If hes doing his job following policies, procedures ect why ask for another instructor?Who cares if he has only 2 months teaching,he has to start somewhere.I say give him a chance and if he is not up to your standards then request a new instructor.School must think he has what it takes otherwise they wouldn't have hired him.
TruckerPete1990 and Truck4Fun Thank this. -
Give him a chance.
