hello, there I talk to my doctor to went over my blood work that was taken for my diabetes to see if I have type 1 or 2. It turns out that it is type 2 diabetes. When I ask him about what kind of diet that I should go on he told me that it would take a long time to lose weight and that I should get Gastric bypass. I just don't get it why he would suggest getting him done. I am only 26 years old weight 325 and am 6'5 so I just don't know what to think about it.
Should I get Gastric bypass?

I would get a band before bypass imo. Band is reversible, and doesn't have the long term effects of bypass.

Well, he is thinking that you won't be able to lose the weight you need in the time you need to. With gastric bypass or even gastric sleeve, you will lose 50% of your weight in the first year. Keeping it off is the challenge. You won't be able to eat greasy foods or more then a handful. You will get full fast. Even on a glass of water. It is something to research for yourself. Good luck!!

I agree on the band.
325 is hefty. 250 would be better for you. Might take you about a year roughly if not two to get there. It took me 18 months to get from 265 to 185 leaving off one meal per day.
Trucking is like really bad for weight loss. You are gonna eat, drink etc. You cannot help it.roadrunningx18 Thanks this. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.

You aren't going to lose weight overnight, and even with a gastric bypass you have to diet and exercise. It's not a magic device.
Changing your diet is a lifestyle change, not a well I will just lose 100lb then go back to normal. People who have that mentality never keep their weight off.
I was 6'3" and my weight scale stopped working after 360lb. Was my oh crap moment. The link above helped me lose close to 100lb this past year. I never really counted calories though. I just made meals on index cards and drew from them. Ate nothing but fish and chicken breasts with a can of veggies for lunch and dinner. Had eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. Wasn't a lot of variety but I'm not a picky eater.
It's not hard to lose weight. People just get discouraged because they don't lose 15lb overnight or in a week, or they think of it as a temporary thing.gokiddogo, DustMyBroom, TripleSix and 2 others Thank this. -
Get away from ALL soda's, breads, potatoes, pasta's etc. Water with sugar free flavoring works good, salads lots of salads (little to no dressing), tuna, chicken, etc. Eat in moderation & go pull a flatbed; u will lose the weight with it
Lepton1 and roadrunningx18 Thank this. -
^ truckers all have good input.
as an EMT, fellow weight manager, and having watched a boss "weight loss" herself into some bad places, I suggest the following:
Drink more water.
Get out the rig and walk. GOAL, and more.
Get good sleep. Humans are meant for 8-9hrs/ day. GOAL the rest!
Weight loss starts with how much less you put into your body.... -
Losing weight is all about Math. Sit around doing nothing and you will gain weight even if you eat a lot of healthy type foods. Consume 2500 calories a day BURN OFF 2500 a day. It is that simple. I am today retired. It has been a while since I have been in the truck stops around the nation. My last few years of driving I did not seem to see this as much because I think the FMCSA reducing the blood pressure limits a few years ago started culling them out. However I have seen drivers that I swear I could not get my arms around. 400 500 600 pounders. I remember several years before they sold out being at the flying fish hook in Greenwood La and watching a guy his butt already the size of a 5th wheel make OVER 7 trips to the breakfast buffet. I commented to another driver sitting next to me it was slow death by food. When I retired I was a bit heavy not real bad but a bit. After getting away from that lifestyle I have dropped my weight and my blood pressure is actually hypo low. It is what it is. OP I am sorry your going through this. However you are killing yourself and you MUST stop eating the junk at those deli counters.
