Hey Tama, could you please tell me the name of the company in Michigan you're speaking of? I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!
Should I get my Class A CDL at 18 years old or wait until I am 21 years old?

Another good avenue that is often overlooked is the custom harvesters.althought it is a little late for that this year.you will be gone for about 5 months and work your butt off and quite possibly love it. Spacetruckers' son did that at 18 then worked as a driver on a large feedlot in Nebraska until he was 21, got his own tractor and leased it to a carrier in Dubuque Iowa. Space said his son has done really well and is really pleased with him. The harvesters are exempt from a lot of the rules as I understand his son son lives in Pa and worked for a harvester out of In. They started cutting wheat in Ca and ended up in Great Falls Montana and he crossed a bunch of state lines with no problems at age 18.
wore out Thanks this. -
Yes I'd say go for it, I got my license at 18. Beverage companies will be your best bet, but either way say if u can't find a local gig now , once u turn 21 and companies see that you've had your class A for a couple of years regardless if u have experience or not, it will sure make u look good and insurance companies will also approve u, I'd go for it.

I started at 15 on the farm in farm tags, when I turned 18 (2 days after cause I had to wait for Monday to come) I took a truck and a hopper up to the courthouse and got my cdl and bought the truck I was driving for a farmer 1993 Peterbilt 379 and he let me use his trailers (dump hopper flatbed and a really junky junky 45' tandem converted to spread reefer converted to van trailer that I completely wore plum slap out) I had my own authority and I ran hard back when someone said log book and everyone scratched their heads wondering what that was. I garuntee you I can leave Paducha, KY and go to Hardinsburg,KY Hauling seed to a farmer in my sleep. I wouldn't do anything else other than drive one of these trucks. It's treated me well. Just either take the plunge and get your own or find a farmer or something.

I didn't see anyone mention this but the U.S. military does use 18 year old CDL drivers. I did enough time to know that is not for everybody but if it is something you might like it will give you experience you can't get anywhere else. Ability to drive many different types of vehicles and haul everything from passengers to flat beds to vans to containers. I don't know if that is a good option for you but in four years you would have a really good resume and be a mature experienced driver.

So, I'm not sure if you'll see this message at all, but would you mind giving the name of the company? I'm under 21 in Michigan and would like to get my CDL, but only if I find a company that will hire me.Chinatown Thanks this.
