Should I get off my mentor truck or tough it out?

    Hello everyone,
    I need to some advice here. I am on my mentors truck right now and having some issues.
    Day 1 when It was my turn to drive we were sitting at the fuel lane pulled up to the yellow line.
    We finished to engine pretrip while we were fulling and then pulled up. My turn to drive, I asked if I should pull up out of the way or perform my 6 step airbrake test hhere. He replied "what ####### test, the one where you apply pressure and loom for leaks?" I replied with ya you know the pretrip airbrake test we are required to do. He told me no just drive, your not gonna do that crap in my truck.

    I arrived at the reciever and he had me do a 90 degree backing between two trailers. He jumped out wihout telling me what his hand signals meant and stayed on my drivers side and started to instruct me. I started and could tell right away I had to much room on my driver side and knew I had to be way to close to passenger side trailer. I told him I need to pull up and he yells "no listen to me, keep coming" I was crawling back and all sudden truck would not move back any farther. I knew I was up against the passengrr side trailer. I tell him and then he decides to check passenger side. Tells me to pull up and straighten out. I then stopped listening to him and got it in. I jumped out and said I hit that trailer didnt I? He said yea but you didnt damage it so dont worry. I got pissed off and stayed quite rest of the night.

    Oh yea let me also say he made me do the flagstaff to long beach, ca drive in rush hour traffic. Keep in mind I am a brand new fresh academy student. He then told me see why I drove last night? I did t want to drive in This ####.

    Day 2 - we are at a terminal waiting for a load and he gets one and just leaves. No pretrip no nothing...
    He drives to the shipper blowing his air horn and calling people f this f that where the f you learn to drive. Tailgating and high beaming every single car that cufs across. He made a few racist comments also.

    Day 3 - I finished the drive to las vegas in an insane wind rain storm. Now he talks to dispatch to get bwck home because he needs to pick some stuff up. AKA he wants to interview with other companies as he has been doing nothing but sending out apps for local work.

    I could gi e some more examples of how he has been but I think I have made my point

    As I write I know what I should do when we get back to our home terminal on tuesday. But I just wanted some advice from all of you.

    I feel this way about it....

    If you don't feel he is a good fit for you, maybe putting your CDL or safety in jeopardy, not teaching you anything but bad habits and not showing you how you should pre/post trip and take care of the companies equipment. Absolutely ask for another trainer when you get back.

    Thank you for the fast replies. I guess my question is do you think ill be jumping from one hot pan to another?
    Or did I just have a bit of bad luck with this one.

    He is trying to leave before your training is up. That may be bad for you. His attitude isn't helping either. I vote ask for a better trainer before you are left sitting at a terminal.

    Doesn't matter Kryon you need a trainer, not this joker. Get off his truck as soon as possible.

    I've only been with two trainers so far, but some actually want to train you!

    Well like my Mother told me when I was about 5 yrs old, retain the good and leave the bad, Grandpa just likes his whiskey,lol. Sounds like you know how things should be, either make waves and get yourself a new trainer, or get through this and get your own truck! you are not going to have things your way with a co-driver especially a trainer.

    Change trainers! My trainer wasn't that bad, but I still hated training. And you do pick up their bad habits.

    Slightly related, this is why I want to train. I would love to help people out, and learn how to back up, etc,

    But I don't even have 1 year in trucking and I can't backup. Although these kind of posts make me think that wouldn't be such a deal breaker.

    I'm short and skinny, I would actually prefer I get the top bunk when we are both not driving. I can only imagine how nerve wracking the whole experience is for students.
